Subject: [DL-C] Pardon Me?

Day 6
Midday

[SNIP]

It was afternoon when Ishtar tapped her on her shoulder with her tail.
[Is
that not the huntress?]

She pointed with a claw. There not to far away there was a familiar
face,
but she wasn't suppose to be here.

She looked over. "Weya!?" she said as she started to step in that
direction.

[END SNIP]

Tatewin had been standing in the crowd watching the arrival of the
riders
who had come from all over the land to aid them in the fight against
Nadusi.
She smiled as she half listened to the many voices claiming they
would now
be able to fight off the giant monster who had come to plague them.

Tatewin kept her council to herself..for was not Nadusi the voice of
their
Gods? Hadn't he sent Nadusi for the sins of her people? Long had the
tribes
walked without truth and many raised their children in forgetfulness.

The crush of people inspired her to step back and make her way around
them
and move to a higher place. A place she sadly noted..did not exist.
Tatewin
ambled and weaved through the throng and found a place to stand and
watch
all the excitement.

She noticed a young woman following her calling to her. Tatewin turned
and
waited for her to catch up. She wondered why she kept calling
her..scout?

"Oh!" the young woman exclaimed as she got closer. "Why.you aren't
Weya!"

Tatewin smiled and waited for her to say more. She sensed that somehow
she
really thought she knew her...

"OH.I'm sorry..I'm Akety." She offered and extended her hand in
greeting.
Tatewin smiled and slowly took her hand and shook it.

"Tatewin." She replied and smiled shyly.

"Sorry..I thought you were...well..you look like my...well..like
someone I
know back home." She finished up. Akety grinned nervously not quite
sure
what to do now.

"Someone looks like me?" Tatewin asked suddenly interested. Why she
never
had known anyone to look like her. Most of her people were darker than
she
was. Unci had always told her she was blessed with the coloring of the
sun.

"Well..yeah..a lot in fact." Akety spoke up. "why.you could be
twins!"

Tatewin smiled. She was curious now.where did this girl live. She
wondered
if it were close.perhaps she could go there..meet her..

"Where you from?" Tatewin asked.

"Daere Warren." Akety answered. It is a beautiful place in the
mountains
far from here. Why?"

"Ah.I see..too far for me to travel..see one who looks like me." She
answered with a smile.

"Oh that would be great!" Akety exclaimed. "Weya would love it!"

Tatewin smiled and hesitated for a moment. "Her name is...Weya?" she
asked
now more curious than before. Why would someone name their daughter
scout...and in the old tongue?

Akety smiled and nodded. "Yep...you dress like her too..well..not as
much
anymore.but when she first came to Daere yeah.."

Tatewin nodded and smiled. "She must be one of the people." Tatewin
answered simply. It would be the only explanation.so perhaps she did
not
look like her as much as they wore the same clothes.

If one was not raised in and among the people, sometimes they were not
aware
of the subtle differences in each tribe and clan. To the untrained eye
they
all looked alike and spoke the exact dialect and tongue.

"Does she ride the wind?" Tatewin asked thinking of her own beloved
sister
and bond mate.

"Ride the wind?" Akety asked not following what this young woman was
saying.
"Oh.does she.is she a dragon rider? No..but we hope so..she is one of
the
searchlings."

"I see." Tatewin smiled in understanding. She looked up and over and
saw
another one had stepped up behind them and it appeared they wished this

young woman's attention.

"I think you are needed." Tatewin said softly pointing to the one
seemingly
waiting.

Akety turned around and smiled. Yes she was needed to work out a plan
so
they could fight this monster..and get home soon. Akety turned back
around
to ask her if they could meet up again and finish their talk only to
find
the girl had somehow slipped away.

Akety looked for a few moments searching the crowd and not seeing her,
turned back around for the one waiting and nodded for them to lead her
to
where it was she was needed.

* * * * * * * * *
Late Afternoon

Tatewin stood watching all the incoming scattered tribes as they fled
from
the one called Nadusi. The roads were clogged with those making their
way to
the Mountain of the Sky Spirits.

She smiled at that thought.for not long ago she too traveled up the
long
winding road that lead to this place. She had come in search of the
Yellow
Wind to ride and be who she was to be.

Unci had been right..that she would find her home and her place if she
followed the Yellow Wind. Now she stood here.watching others of her
people
making their way to this sanctuary. Coming to a place they normally
feared
and kept away from.

She suddenly realized she could help them..as she watched the make
shift
camps set up and the normal daily needs of life take over. She was a
hunter.she would go hunt now.she and Tatezi would bring fresh meat for
the
families..she would gift them so no honor was lost.

She was a rider..and she would welcome them to their new home.and show
them
they were welcome. She knew the others were busy..and with so many she
did
not wish to have anyone lost in the hustle and bustle.

<*I am ready my sister..I know just the right place..*> Tatezi
whispered
showing Tatewin the hunting spot knowing it would tempt her bond mate.

*Let us hunt* Tatewin responded to her sister and in a moment they were

flying above the dust, the noise and din of so many people packed into
such
a small area. Well.small for her people..they were used to large vast
spaces to spread out and enjoy the beauty of their land.

Tatezi enjoyed the wind and the currents that flowed in and about her
as
they glided in the pure silence of the sky. This is where she wished
to
be..forever free with her heart close by.

Soon the hunting spot was seen as Tatezi dipped and glided silently
over the
land leaving behind a soft whoosh and shadow crossing the ground. The
area
was rich with game and teeming with life and Tatewin was glad they had
not
found it devoid of habitation.

With Nadusi prowling the land.no life was safe. And in the past
week.she
had seen several hunting grounds devoid of all life. That was not a
good
sign. For her people would suffer long during the cold season if
Nadusi
consumed their sustenance removing the opportunity to glean as they
have
done since the beginning of time.

Tatezi landed and Tatewin hopped off her back. Tatewin nodded and made

ready for the quick hunt. Tatezi lifted off rising high in the sky and
with
a dive and roar sent the unsuspecting prey from their hidden places.

With their mind link Tatewin stood her ground and felled each beast as
it
rushed past her. She grinned as she felt the joy her sister felt and
even
laughed out loud. She had always enjoyed the thrill of the hunt.
Since
Tatezi joined her in this venture it was more efficient and with less
hassle..and more time to explore.seeking new hunting grounds.with
Tatezi in
her life.she was able to be a better hunter.and even have more skins
and
furs to work with.

The thought of leather brought a flush to her as she quickly tried to
push
down that which has happened between her and the Chieftain Andahar.
Altho
sanctioned by Anavasha; the gift they shared had been a sacred one...it

still had touched a deep place within her and she was not able to shake
it.

She pushed such thoughts away..for he belonged to another..and she knew
as
soon as he realized it had been her who had gifted him with the
leathers...he would call her deceitful and devious. She sighed
sadly..for
she did not know how to go about cleansing the way between them.

With each kill..Tatewin would stop to perform the necessary ritual to
ensure
the meat would not be tainted. She quickly gathered what she and
Tatezi
could carry and knew that they had enough for the camps she had seen.

As they flew back over the land Tatewin knew she would find the way to
somehow cleanse the way between her and the chieftain and perhaps in
this
simple way of welcoming the refugees and helping them she could also
prove
her honor. It would also help showing her status...

Tatezi circled the new forming camps and found a clearing and cried out

their arrival. Tatewin let the dust settle before climbing off and
getting
her bearings.

The people huddled in clusters as the fear and worry could be read on
each
one's face.

She saw some of the warriors.and a few chieftains step forward to see
what
it was she offered or wanted. She waited until they were all close
enough
and bowed lowly.
"I welcome you." Tatewin called out. "I bring fresh meat as gift of
welcoming in the ways of our grandfathers."

She was very relieved when she rose back up a few came forward and
thanked
her for the welcome and gift. She blushed softly when several offers
came
for her to share their fire and join in the feast of thanksgiving.

After handing out all the meat she went to each small camp to see first
hand
what they needed or how they fared. She was glad she wore her status
and
all knew she was Hunter...that she was able to walk among the people
and be
heard if it were needed.

"Hinziwan!.......Hinziwan!.....Hinziwan!" A small voice of a young
child
called out in more eagerness than shock or surprise. Tatewin smiled as
she
turned towards the sound of the voice. She was use to such
outburst..for
among her people she was golden..like the warming rays of the bright
orb in
the sky.

The small boy dragged what she assumed was his father closer to her. A
woman
followed closely behind holding a babe in her arms. The look on the
man's
face startled Tatewin for she did not know what he found so disturbing.

"Hinziwan Ah'te! Hinziwan!" the little boy exclaimed happily pointing
at
Tatewin. She smiled shyly and waited for his father to speak.

The man sunk to his knees before her and raised his hands over his head
and
raised his voice in thanksgiving and called down blessings from the
Gods.

Tatewin stood stunned unsure what to do. She had never had anyone
react in
such a way. Slowly his words begun to sink in and she was confused.
She
looked about her and saw that his small tribe all stood quietly none
embarrassed or shamed at the tears their chief showed.

The woman stepped around her mate and with a welcoming smile wrapped
her
arms around her.

"Sister...the Gods have returned you."
