Subject: [DL-N] Smokey Goosebumps
Day 11/12 Midnightish
Following the tattooed rider Breezy mentally called to her dragon
knowing that K'tarr would have Qualis co-ordinating things with the
dragons. Losing the Alpha Wingleader in the smokey haze she hesitated
mid stride when a panicked Coo began babbling in her mind. Well
babbling was a nice way of putting it, as it was more like a hysterical
screeching roar that made Breezy's eyes twitch from the awful sound.
All she managed to glean from the draconian bluster was [My
hatchling...] and [no rider...]
"What!!!" Breezy exclaimed immediately turning in the direction of the
hatching cavern barely able to make it out the opening through the
smoke. [My baby, she's scared her rider won't answer her and Malani
won't let them go! I'm here with them but Malani is terrified!]
The little ones! Spinning around to find K'tarr another explosion
almost knocked Breezy of her feet, along with the loud echoing groan of
rocks giving. The jail! People began to scramble as large boulders flew
landing with a sickening thud. Then came the screaming.
Tenses seconds passed as Breezy hesitated not quite sure which
direction to go. There was fire, death and screams for help coming from
all directions. Staring through the swirling haze at the pile of rubble
a moment caught her eye and she could just make out the form of Ranker
emerging from the rubble. He reached back and pulled out a dazed
Justin. "Shit!" She exclaimed through clenched teeth. Instinctively
reaching for her daggers she realized that wasn't something she had
thought to grab on their way out the door.
"LOOK OUT!" the shout echoed over the ringing in her ears.
Ducking then rolling to avoid a huge ember of burning something, the
redhead came back to her feet. It was perfect timing that a group of
the guards were racing pass and she jumped at one jerking his sword
from its sheath. Unfortunately, he had the safety strap on it and the
recoil sent her colliding with the man as he immediately began to swing
at whoever was accosting him.
"Dammit give me your sword!" She yelled and dodged the fist the guard
taking a step back when he realized whom it was that had tackled him.
But the redhead didn't waste time with explanations, freeing the weapon
she took off a dead run.
Unable to see clearly both men were gone by the time she got there.
Spinning in all directions she uttered another oath just as the smoked
cleared for a moment and she saw Justin heading for the bucket line
with some of the guards and the large form of Ranker weaving through
the smoke in the direction of the Alpha Wingleader. Not that she
entertained thoughts of trying to detain them more to give them a
choice of either helping, or being very sorry they didn't.
Starting off for the hatching cavern a faint call for help brought her
spinning back around to face the rocky rubble that was once the Norwall
jail. Answering the call she ran back and forth trying to isolate the
exact location of the voice. Making out movement in the pile of rocks
she realized it was fingers wiggling. Calling out she did her best to
assure whomever it was that help was on it's way. The stones were hot
but not searingly so, but touching them was still uncomfortable. Using
the sword as a lever she pulled some of the looser rocks away but knew
that she was no match for the heavier one. The call for help was
growing weaker and she screamed for help inhaling a lung full of the
acrid smoke in the process. Coughing against the burning in her chest
Breezy called out again praying her raspy voice would be heard above
the grotesque roar that was fast consuming her home. After what seemed
like an eternity several riders carrying buckets appeared.
[..]
"Get him to the med...." Breezy ordered, stopping herself as the men
pulled the wounded, but alive night guard free. She gagged emitting a
choking sound as a second guard was pulled from the hole or at least
what was left of him. Two of the rescuers immediately emptied the
contents of their stomachs at the sight of the twisted and charred
figure. The smell of burnt flesh was overpowering and Breezy pulled the
tail of her shirt up over her mouth and nose holding her breath she
turned away.
"Jale's at the quartermaster's we'll take him there." One of the men
shouted.
"Jale?" Breezy uttered with a sigh of relief. "Hurry!" She nodded doing
a mental headcount of the jail population. If the rosters were right
only one prisoner was unaccounted for. Ka'Laren! Not thinking as to
whether she should care or not she grabbed one of the men and ordered
him to get a crew and search the rubble for any others before running
off.
[SISTER!!!] Coo shouted in her mind. [Hurry! You've got to find
Purity's rider she can't feel her!]
Delilah? Where was she? In her apartment? Turning that direction
Breezy's heart sank. There was nothing left of that part of the living
quarters. "Oh No!" She whispered. Yet, if Delilah was actually among
the dead Purity would now. She just couldn't hear her is what Coo was
saying. Which could mean a lot of things or at least she hoped it did.
Starting off towards the dining hall Breezy paused suddenly realizing
she was going in the wrong direction. The smoke was getting thicker
with visibility almost non-existent now. Smoke, flames and now steam
filled the crater bowl. If she wasn't careful she could end up walking
in circles. Biting her lip Breezy slowly turned around trying to
orientate herself looking something familiar through the dingy gray.
Stumbling on a rock she looked down and breathed a huge sigh of relief.
The walking paths! The warren had several that criss-crossed through
it, if she could only find the right one it would take her straight to
the dining hall. Moving as fast as she dared the redhead almost
collided with others lost in the dense haze.
Out of nowhere a huge gust of wind almost knocked her off her feet and
the startled redhead looked up to see a contingent of dragons directly
above using their wings to fan away the smoke. "Yessss!" She chirped
and sprinted off as the area began to clear.
It seemed like it took an eternity to make her way to the dining hall.
The fires were starting to die down and it was growing darker by the
minute. Suddenly her feet went straight out from under her and Breezy
slammed to the hard ground knocking the breath out of her. Stars
floated before her eyes and her chest felt like a huge boulder had
landed on it as she gasped for air. It was a moment before she realized
that she was flat on her back and for some reason she was now extremely
cold. A round of shivers shook her and her teeth began to chatter,
rolling over to stand up she knees slipped out from under her and she
went sprawling and sliding. "What the shit..." She was on a huge patch
of ice! "What the..ohmygod!" She uttered. It was Pearl! Bless his
heart, she'd forgotten all about his icy breath. Looking up a streak of
white flew over her for another strafing run and a breath of relief
escaped the small woman. It was rather amazing, one second she was
sweating to death and now she was freezing her ass off. The only
problem now was how to get off the slippery area without breaking her
neck. Carefully pushing herself up to a sitting position the redhead
pondered the situation. The patch of ice was huge and how she had ended
up in the center of it remained to be seen. There was no doubt it was
not going to be as easy getting off as it was getting on, well that is
if trying to break one's back constituted being easy.
[SISTER!!!]
*I'M COMING! I'M COMING!* Breezy snapped Digging in her heels the best
she could she began 'rowing' herself across the slick surface on her
backside and hoped she had some feeling left in her butt by the time
she got to the edge. The unbidden thought that her backside might
actually freeze to the ice made her arms and legs work even faster.
After much slipping, sliding and more then a few curses Breezy with a
sigh of relief had her feet back on 'dry land'.
[..] After midnight Day 12 = O dark thirty
Amazingly the dining hall was one of the few buildings still intact and
Breezy wearily shoved open the heavy door. At least her teeth weren't
chattering anymore. What she found when she stepped into the hall was
astonishing. The room was alight with candles and Dev and Jeryn were
issuing orders as fast as they could and the main dining room was being
turned into an overflow medical area.
"Jale, ran out of room where he's at. So the lesser-wounded are being
brought here and we're tending them the best we can until he's able to
come. It's bad Breezy, and no one knows for sure what happened!" The
queenrider sighed sadly shoving tables together. "Somehow the gas got
turned off, I think that's the only thing that saved us here!" He
added.
A loud snort erupted from the cook, "Nothing short of a miracle I'd
say, or we'd probably be in the same shape as the med center right
now!"
Breezy nodded looking around the room at the sea of ragged faces. She
rubbed her arms still feeling a bit chilled. Suddenly her eyes widened
and she spun around, "Jeneve! Where is Jeneve!" Her call was repeated
through the bond.
"Tallon has here, we went to her apartment and she was already gone. We
went searching and one of his men tracked me down to let me know that
he'd found her and she's safe. Where they are at now I don't know!" Dev
answered his lips etched into a grim line.
"Breezy, have you seen Delilah?" Jeryn asked at the same time Coo
answered. [Malani isn't making sense and SISTER! YOU'VE FIND PURITY"S
RIDER!] She fought to keep the pained look from her face as she wasn't
about to share her concerns with the woman's uncle, but she couldn't
avoid the young Lord's questioning gaze. Dev had a dragon he knew ....
Waving to one of the men Dev gave him instructions then patted the
elder cook on the shoulder. "Don't worry Uncle we'll find her."
Grabbing Breezy by the arm he half dragged the surprised redhead to the
door.
"I just got the word from Deeva. Coo is obviously frantic! I'll help
you look!" He stated with a sad smile. They hadn't taken more then a
few steps when Breezy was accosted by a hysterical blonde.
"Breezy!!" Amy cried out. "Link is missing! I don't know what happened!
Once minute he was on the bucket brigade the next he was gone." Tears
from the stinging smoke and frantic worry streaked her cheeks. "I was
organizing the Mini Wing and when I looked back he wasn't there. No one
knows where he went and Cloud can't hear him! He said something about
the gas to Belle but he's so worried he's not making any sense! You've
got to help me find him!"
{AC:} Just a placing for Breezy at the moment and with more to come.

When is a Cold Not A Cold.. When Abby Finds a Clue (part four)
The saga continues.....
>"You've known Trevor for 'several years' and Trevor's still alive to talk
about it?" the healer's lips twitch in amusement. She well knew her friends
reputation for getting back at her brothers and others when they tried to
pull something on her.
>Lenna gave a short laugh, understanding what Abby was getting at.
>"Let's just say Trevor..."gets me", she purred, and smiled for the first
time since Abby gave her the news about Triss.
"He must be a pretty amazing guy to have you care about him so much,"
Abby noted, as respect for the man she had never met rose in her mind.
"Trevor is amazing even though he doesn't know it himself. He reminds
me a lot of Dan'yar in some ways, always putting other people first,
even before his own needs, and is always willing and ready to help
others out when they have a problem," Lenna's tone held a respect that
Abby didn't hear much when talking to her friend. "That's why I'm
finding it so hard to believe that some bastard would try to get at him
by trying to kill his dragon..." her voice trailed off, but Abby
waited, knowing Lenna wasn't done talking.
"You know they saved my life..." she turned her eyes on the healer.
"The time you helped save Blanchie's life when I was kidnapped... Triss
found me.. She has this kind of.. extra whammy thing.. a talent I've
never seen in any other dragon before. It's sort of a sonar thing that
allows her to zone in on someone she knows, and they were somehow able
to find me using it. I don't know exactly how it works but it does..
I've seen her do it several times."
She jerked away from Abby and looked as if she wanted to hit something,
but she regained her composure and turned back under control now.
"That's why who ever did this had better hope others find them before I
do, because they messed with my family and I will make them pay for
that!"
"Make who pay for what?" came the concern voice of the Warrenlady from
the door way behind them. The healer and Lenna turned quickly to face
them and Lenna had the grace to blush like a child getting caught
saying something she shouldn't have. "I hope you are not planning on
disrupting my Warren again. It's been so 'quite' around here lately."
Lenna snorted, "You miss it and you know it... Just the other day you
were saying I've grown to tame.. But I'm sure you'll agree with me once
you hear what we have to tell you." She warned her, including Trevor in
her reply.
Cynthia's ears heard the seriousness in her tone and after seeing the
confirmation in the respected Healer's eyes, the Warrenlady groaned.
"Will
I need a stiff drink before I hear the news?"
"If you didn't just have twins... Congratulations by the way... I'd say
yes to the drink..." Abby quipped. "But as you did just have twins...
we'll just pretend you also just had a stiff drink because you're going
to need it."
"I'm not going to like this am I?"
"No more then Trevor or the rest of us do..," Lenna's eyes were cold,
not matching the smile on her lips. "For once it's not about me getting
back at someone... Yet. I'll let Abby tell you what she found when I
asked her to have a look at Triss."
She saw concern flash in Trevor's eyes and hated that she had to be the
one telling him what he was about to hear.
Cynthia nodded a greeting to the Healer she had known most of her life,
then gave Lenna a *you had better explain what the healer is doing here
in Cleft Warren* look. "It's good to see you Abby. I hope you were not
inconvenienced being called here to the Cleft."
The Telnor healer shook her head and gave a short laugh. "Actually I
came here on my own to say goodbye to some old friends. I'm leaving in
the morning to head out to Jasra Warren in the lost lands to see my
brother Ga'brin's mate and their children. You know Tera moved there
after they refused to do anything in Telnor about Ash... when he killed
Ga'brin .. To
many memories."
Cynthia nodded. She had known Ga'brin... His dragon Preston had won her
Queens mating flight just before they opened Cleft Warren. "I was sorry
to hear about his death. How are your parents doing?"
"Thank you M'lady.. Mother and father are doing fine, though they miss
Ga'brin's boys, but understand why Tera felt she had to leave.. They
are doing a lot better now that Ben'sar who we had thought died in a
teleporting accident.. turned up alive but with no memory of his time
away."
Lenna was watching Trevor as the two old friends caught up and she
could see his face looked a bit paler then normal and slowly made her
way closer to him, without making it seem that way.
The Warrenlady's eyes lit up with pleasure upon hearing the news of the
Tenor rider Ben'sar's return. "I was thrilled when I heard the news.
You'll have to give him my love when you see him... But now what has
happened that you both felt the need to summon us here?"
Abby turned to look at Lenna, who nodded for her go ahead and explain.
Abby began by explaining about arriving in the Cleft to see her old
friend.. and how during lunch, Lenna asking her to come with her to
have a look at Triss when Blanchie had requested her rider come look at
her.
"We took a blood test and when Lenna and Blanchie got called away.. I
came back here and run the test."
She paused to look at Lenna for a second before going on to explain to
the them, just as she had Lenna moments earlier about finding the
Myspoolotas in the dragon test blood and how it was impossible for them
to have gotten there on their own.
Cynthia, knowing Abby's reputation first hand for her skills in healing
dragons, didn't question her findings as her face turn to stone
reminding the healer of an angry Lenna for the moment.
Trevor looked about ready to pass out as he listen to Abby explain what
the bugs did to their victims. Lenna moved to his side of offer support
as his knees buckled in fear. She knew he was thinking about the worse
possible thing happening to his soul mate... and the thought was more
then any rider could bare.
She saw him look pleadingly at first herself and then Abby as if
begging them to tell him everything would be okay.
"Triss will be fine," Abby was quick to promise him. The confidence in
her tone doing more to reassure him then words alone. "We got the
antidote to her before any real damage could be done to her internal
organs.
He looked up at her, not even trying to hide the tears of relief that
threaten to fall from his eyes. Lenna knew how he felt as she wiped
away tears from her own eyes. If she had lost Blanchie during the
kidnapping... she wouldn't have wanted to live.
"Are you sure she'll be okay?" his voice was horse and low.
"I'm sure," Her voice was firm as she looked from Trevor to the hand
Cynthia had placed on his shoulder. "I'll take another blood sample
tomorrow before I leave but I'm sure Triss will be fine. The antidote
works quickly, and the fact that there wasn't enough red cells for them
to
attack and eat helped quite a bit. Besides which, Triss says she's
feeling better already.
"You can hear her?" Trevor asked, not sure he had heard her right. "She
spoke to you?"
"Abby has a rare ability that enables her to *speak* & *hear* injured
dragons when she's healing them," Cynthia told her mate, glad now that
she did. "It's what makes her such an excellent healer. She somehow
*feels* the dragons pain and somehow this lessens the dragon's own real
pain.. She is much sought after for the worse dragon injuries, because
of her success rate at pulling through the worst dragon injuries. So if
she says Triss will be fine.... Then Abby speaks the truth. She would
know."
"Then I am doubly thankful to you Healer Abby," he exclaimed and
reached out his hand to her in a sign of gratitude. "If I or my dragon
can ever do anything for you... You've only to ask... I am surprised
though that you were not searched.."
Abby gave an amused snort. She was used to people asking that question.
"Others have wondered that too. My duty in life travels down a
different path. We both serve our Warren in different ways. I have
always wanted to be a healer... so I've never once regretted not
joining with a Dragon... They talk to me and I to them.. Not just one
on one.. so I have the best of both worlds."
She turned to look steal a quick look at Lenna and then gave a long
sigh. "Okay.. now back to why we called you here. These bugs... They
didn't just happen to jump on Triss and work themselves into his blood
stream on a whim... They DO NOT attack dragons on their own..
Someone.." and she looked from Cynthia to focus on Trevor. "Someone
with evil intentions
injected those bugs into Triss on purpose..."
She now took a look around the room and met the eye of each person
there.
"Now you have the hard job. You get to figure out who you pissed off
bad enough that they would try to get back at you by trying to kill
your dragon..."

Subject: [DL-N] Buried Alive!
Day 11 Late Night
Unable to sleep Delilah had returned to the dining hall to finish some
of the stocking that she had planned on finishing up the next day.
Visions of sugarplums intruding into her dark dreams made her teeth
stand on end and was almost more then she could bear. This being bonded
to a dragon definitely had its drawbacks. The hatchling was fast asleep
finally but her dreams spilled over into Delilah's and made for some
out and out weirdness. How it was that a creature as sweet and gentle
as Purity could attach herself to one that was none of those things was
beyond the woman's comprehension. The Gods must be playing a very sick
joke on her to stick her with a dragon and one that blushed no less.
Delilah pondered this and more as she counted the supplies then made
her way to the storeroom. Keeping busy regardless of the time of day
helped her forget, so it was not uncommon for the night watch to see
the young woman out and about during the late hours. Since Jeryn was
often up late with his recipes anyway the company of his niece was
always welcomed.
The small cart was filled to the brim as she pushed it out the door
patting the large bag of flour on top to make sure it was balanced
correctly. It took a small grunt and groan as she shoved the heavy door
closed and after securing the large padlock back in place Delilah
deposited the key in her apron pocket. Humming to herself the
dark-haired beauty pushed the small cart back down the path unaware of
the horrific events that were about to take place.
The explosion in the med center knocked her off her feet and the
jostling to the cart unseated the bag of flour. Instinctively she
scrambled to grab it when another explosion lit up the night sending
shower of rocks and debris down on her. Ducking to get way Delilah and
the bag of flour collided and a cloud of white erupted around the young
woman bringing a chirp of fear and annoyance from her. Her first
thought was to wipe herself clean until she was hit in the shoulder by
a huge rock that dropped her to her knees. A gasp of pain erupted as
more rocks fell.
Panic swelled from within and she looked around in bewildered
confusion. A wall of orange rose from the medcenter and a loud buzzing
filled her ears. The silhouettes of people pouring from their homes was
blurred by a bright pinkish haze. Suddenly she was pulled to her feet
and a man stood over her, blood covered his face but it was such an odd
color then she realized it was she that was bleeding and not him, and
Delilah looked up at him with a dazed expression. His mouth was moving
but she could barely hear him. Finally the words "are you ok' seeped
through and she nodded weakly wondering if she really was.
Nodding he ran off towards the growing flames and Delilah stood and
watched him go, wondering whether she should follow. Thoughts of her
Uncle and Purity brought a divided decision and she wasn't sure which
way to go. Yet, the dining hall was closer and she needed to get under
cover. She'd started towards the dining hall when a series of rapid
fire explosions shook the ground with such force she lost her balance
and bringing more of the cliff above raining down on her. Yelps of pain
erupted as Delilah was pelted by stones. Managing to get to her feet
the server staggered past the cart hoping to get inside.
Something hit her hard from behind and the green-eyed woman went
sprawling face first into the ground. Searing heat burned through the
heavy apron from the hot embers on the ground beneath and she cried out
rolling away tearing at the smoking material. Grabbed once again and
jerked upright strange hands hit her in various places. Gasping she
twisted painfully to find that the man behind the hands was the Bard.
Staring at Antwin in shock she barely heard the words "you're on fire
woman!"
Once 'she was put out' he took the server by the arm and guided her
back to the cliff wall and an overhanging ledge. "Stay under here!" He
commanded then hurried off into the smoky gray that now clung to
everything.
"Wai..." Delilah called after him starting to follow.
The next explosion was almost underfoot and the wall above gave way.
Delilah screamed and jumped back trying to get under cover. Stumbling
over loose stones her momentum carried her under the ledge. Off balance
though her head hit roughly against the rock wall and everything around
her faded into the blissful blackness of unconsciousness, unaware of
the avalanche of boulders that rumbled down to bury her alive.
NRPG: Delilah is bunged up, covered with flour but alive, and is under
a ledge that is now buried under a large part of the cliff.
