Subject: [USS Calypso] Johnny's Deluxe Daystarter

[MD4: 1735hrs]

Well Counsellor, I think my record speaks for itself." Johnny smiled.

"Well yuh record don't reflect too kindly on yuh... maybe there's more
to it than what's in this ol' thing," Georgi said, waving her PADD.

"OK. Let's have a potted history of me. I grew up travelling with my
Mom and Dad in space. I never liked school and never had to go anyway
coz Mom and Dad taught me. I spent a lot of time in extreme sports and
I've still got a contract with ZeroGCom as a program designer for their
top level holos. I still go to the max wherever and whenever I can. I
went into SF Testing because I couldn't think of anything that pushed
harder or flew faster and I pushed harder and flew faster than anyone
else in StarFleet. In the end, I got fed up of being static
and I, well," Johnny grinned as he added, "I had my differences with my
commanding officer."

Georgi nodded. "Yessuh... yo' ol' boss seems mighty unhappy with you.
Seems like more'n jus' what's in this file too."

Johnny eyed the Counsellor. She was certainly in the right job.

"Well Georgi, I don't think he liked it when his daughter and I started
spending time together." He didn't even try to keep the grin from
spreading over his face. "Poe-face didn't start off as my biggest fan
but I think that kinda clinched it for me. Made it easy for him to
forget that Testing had never put in better figures than when I was
leading Alpha-1."

"So, yuh got the job done, huh? It din' mattuh that you wuh playin' by
yo' own rules?"

"When you're the pilot, the only person you're risking is yourself. The
rest is just scrap metal welded together and a lot of juice to fire it
up. I knew what I was doing and they wouldn't trust me: they just
thought I was a brainless jock."

"What about now?"

"If you mean now that I'm flying this cruise liner," Johnny chuckled,
"then I can promise you I don't intend to risk anyone on board this
ship without a damn good reason."

"Ah sure am glad to hear that coz ah ain't got no plans to go anytime
soon!"

The two shared a giggle.

"Ah ain't gonna lie to you handsome, ah'm still worried about yo'r
likin' for bein' a hero and ah ain't too sure yaw gonna like life on a
'cruise liner'."

Johnny smile dropped for a moment before he cranked it up once more.

"Well Georgi, I suppose it's your job to worry now, isn't it? If we
were all fine upstanding StarFleet drones, you would be out of a job."

"Well ah'm gonna keep a special eye on you handsome, just in case ah'm
right."

"OK, OK, but I might keep an eye or two on you now and again." To
prove it, he ran an appreciative gaze over the Counsellor's shapely
form and grinned.

"Get outa he'ya before ah git mad!" said Georgi, shaking her head at
the new pilot.

Johnny stood up, saluted crisply and marched from the Counsellor's
office, buzzing like the happy drone he should have been.

[MD4/5: Night Shift]

Anyone who knew space knew that it was very large. The concentration
of M-class planets is so low and the number of ships per square 100
kilometres of space is so tiny as to be non-existant. This means,
statistically, there aren't any. Johnny looked at the instrument
readouts on his console. Those statisticians knew what they were
talking about. Space was absolutely dead tonight and Brant had
certainly known what he was doing when sentencing Johnny to night duty:
but Johnny had a little secret.

He wasn't quite a dumb as he liked to come across. It was always
better being that way than so many of his superior officers who like to
come across as smarter than they actually were. Johnny was monitoring
the instruments but he was also running over the ship's control and
engine specs and cross-referencing them against the ship's logs. This
ship seemed to be an impressive mover when the need required. He was
looking in particular for times when the operational specs had been
pushed or exceeded and checking against ship's stresses
and repair logs. Johnny knew that one day, he was going to have to
push the vessel as hard as she could go but, as he told Georgi, he
wasn't going to risk her crew any more than might have to.

[MD5: 0630hrs: The Cave]

After a long but productive night, Johnny had thoroughly assessed the
ship's capabilities. One of the advantages of being a test pilot was
that he could very quickly assess a ship and what it could do. Knowing
he wouldn't be able to sleep, he made his way to the recreation area
for breakfast. As he entered the lounge, he took in the view. It
seemed fine if a little sterile - this was, of course, typical of
StarFleet. Looking around, there weren't many people in yet. A few
yeomen (and yeo-women) from night shift. One particular table seemed
to perk up and his entrance and he was sure to beam them a winning
smile as he passed, one blond and two brunette heads instantly giggling
before huddling together in hushed conversation.

He ambled up to the bar area and perched on a stool. In a heartbeat,
his aimless gaze was fixed on someone coming through to serve him. She
looked young: perhaps not even 20. She was slim but quite curvaceous
and her eyes... Johnny had never seen eyes that were so
black. She moved gracefully towards him with a slight sway that did
just enough to make those curves roll seductively.

"Hi there! You must be Ensign Tempete. I'm Angel."

"Well hi right back Angel! but I hope you plan to call me Johnny in
future. How are you this morning?"

Johnny grinned and held the gaze of those beautiful black eyes that
looked like a portal to the soul. Angel flushed.

"Oh.. well.. I.. I'm fine.. I mean, I'm good.. I.. What can I do for
you J-Johnny?"

"Well now, there's an open question if ever there was one but for now,
I'd like a 'Johnny's Deluxe Daystarter'."

"A what!?"

Before Angel knew what was happening, Johnny had vaulted the bar. "Let
me show you..."

Five minutes and a lot of blushing later, Angel had found out that a
'Johnny's Deluxe Daystarter' was actually a fruit smoothie with a very
unusual mixture of fruits and a couple of dashes of some very strange
flavourings Angel would never have put in a smoothie. Ominously, there
were two glasses of the substance sitting on the bar.

"Have one yourself Angel."

After watching Johnny take a long drink of his, Angel took a tentative
sip. Her eyes almost popped.

"Wow! That's got some zing..."

"It sure does. Every day should start with a 'Johnny Deluxe'."

The three yeomen who had giggled at him earlier left as this remark
went out into the open and cackled their way from the room, Johnny
winking them goodbye.

As Angel struggled not to choke, she finally managed a "So, are you
heading off for some well-earned rest?"

"Not a chance! I've got three new holo programs I've been working on
and I'm going to try to iron the wrinkles out of 'Extreme Moto 2'."

"What's that?"

"Well Angel, as well as being a dashing young pilot, I also write
extreme sports programs... when I'm not doing them for real. Have you
ever seen extreme motocross free-jumping?"

"Isn't that where you jump from stupidly high ramps and do tricks in
the air?"

"It sure is Angel... and nobody bags more air time than Johnny," he
added, grinning. "Maybe you'd like to check it out sometime? Do you
like excitement Angel?"

<TAG Carina: well, does she? :-)>

Subject: [DL-J] Fig's Aftermath

Fig Aftermath

Most Landbound people did not understand thereby disproved of Warren
mating flights and what they had heard about them. Still it did not
stop them from feeling the sexual pull the same way riders did when a
dragon rose to mate. Especially a Queen Dragon, for they were the
bearers of the breed and when they rose to mate, every male dragon in
the area lifted off
in pursuit hoping to be the one who caught her. All that dragon emotion
was bound to effect the unjoined as well as those join.

Fig could see the eyes of the sailors as they exited the front room of
the Inn. They did not look happy. The confusion she could see reflected
on their faces, was something she had seen before. They *felt* but did
not know why they did, the sexual awareness that had come over them and
they were upset to be denied the chance to satisfy it.

One sailor turned and spotted her on guard outside the Inn. She saw the
knowing smile that came over his lips as he turned towards her, but her
sword rose a bit while her head began to shake slowly side to side. He
got the message and moved on to find a more willing body. He didn't
have to look far, Fig could see women coming out of the doors of some
of the other
buildings. They had been just as effected by the mating flight as the
sailors and had come looking to scratch their owe itch. Her sailor
moved off to a more willing female.

She focused her mind on the area around her to make sure none tried to
re-enter the Inn, not wanting to think about Seydor possibly winning.
He was a fine beast and had won many of flights. Some even after they
had become mates and Fig had never minded before, for she knew Jerram
loved only her and would always return to her after the fight was over.
This was
different. This was her mother's Queen involved in the flight and it
wasn't right.

In her time, Jerram's Seydor had never won the Queen, Varaenna. Not
that he hadn't tried.. But that was before they had declared their love
for one another. After that Jerram had always taken Seydor away from
the Warren when Varaenna flew.

She tried to force the image of her mother in Jerram's arms from her
mind, but as she watched the flight taking place above them.. the
thoughts kept forcing their way back into her mind.

Above she saw the Red and Blue flying after the Queen, but she was
leading them on a merry chase. Then a third dragon appeared out of the
air to join those following. Minutes later a forth join the fray and
Fig prayed if not the red dragon of her father, then one of the wilders
would win.

She barely noticed when Griffin came to stand beside her to guard the
other side of the door. "It's all clear in side," he told her as he had
a quick look around the square. "Where'd they all go?"

Fig forced herself to laugh. "They all found willing partners to ease
their umm.. You get the idea I'm sure."

"Ah.." the sailor chuckled, and Fig half expected him to suggest that
they find a place for themselves. But her respect for the man rose when
he did no such thing.

"Knew about mating flights before," he commented, as his eyes continued
to survey the area. "But I never knew us Landers or boat people could
be effected by them. Thought we were gonna have us a fight getting some
of that lot out of there."

"Most of the time they aren't effected by it. But a Queen flight is
different because every male dragon in the Warren who can fly after her
has a go at it and emotions can be pretty strong. Strong enough to
effect anyone near by." She explained, latching on to that subject
because she did so not want to think about Seydor's chance of winning.

She was scared. Though she worked hard to keep those feelings from
showing. On a personal level she would hate it if Seydor did win.
Jerram was hers and she didn't want to share him. It didn't matter that
she was out of time.. She still loved him and didn't want to share him
with anyone.. Let alone her mother! Not even in this timeline where
their love
for each other wasn't even a dream. She knew the emotion coursing
through her for what it was. It had a name.

That name jealousy.

It wasn't an emotion she liked to admit she could feel. But she had had
some practice even in her time when Jerram had paraded around several
women to show her that he still considered her a child when he had
first became aware of her feelings for him. She had been 16 at the time
and a dragonrider. But he thought her to young and later she found out
he'd been waiting for Kasha to fly to mate. Only then did he finally
admit that she was grown and ready to share the love between a man and
a woman. Kasha rising had been the signal. After that Jerram quit
pretending and had sent Seydor after the dark gray dragon and woe to
anyone who got in their way.

"Looks like the blue's the lucky winner," Griffin chuckled as he
watched the queen and her suitor flew off to enjoy themselves.

>From somewhere deep inside, Fig could hear a scream of denial and barely
kept from uttering it aloud. It couldn't be true. "Please no," she begged
softly as she finally found the pair winging their way to completion.

"It shouldn't be happening this way. It's not right," she said so
softly that Griffin wasn't sure he had heard her right. Nor did he
understand. How could he when she didn't understand it herself.

"No.. Looks like the blue to me.. See the Red's coming back and them
wilders are going back from where ever they came from," he had totally
misunderstood her reasoning. "Wonder how long we'll have to wait for
the riders to show their faces."

"Depends on the riders," she said without thinking. Inside she was
screaming that this couldn't be happening. It was all wrong! All wrong.
Sabbith was suppose to have won. She knew this from stories her parents
had told her about her own conception. She'd heard it so many times she
knew it by heart... Just was she knew something in the timeline had
gone
terribly wrong.

Could it be all her fault? Had she caused time to change when she came
back? She didn't want to believe it but what other explanation could
there be... Did this then mean that Jerram and not Kay was her... Oh
gods no... she couldn't deal with it.

A wave of dizziness over took her and she might have fallen if Griffin
hadn't been watching her. He caught her and led her to the bench to sit
down.

"You okay?" he asked concern could be heard in his voice. "Should I go
get the red's rider or a glass of water?"

"No.." she grabbed his arm so he wouldn't leave. "I'll be okay in a
minute. You just stay here and keep watch."

"Are you sure... It won't take me but a minute... Oh wait.." he said
and reached into the inner pocket of his coat and pulled out a small
silver flask. Twisting the lid off, he held it out to her. "It's a bit
rough, but it'll fix you up in no time."

Fig wanted to refuse, but knew he was right. He helped her lift it to
her mouth and tipped it until she got a mouth full... It burned going
down, and nearly took her breath away. Rough was right. But it did the
trick and the dizziness faded away just as quickly as it had come.

"Thanks.." she coughed as he laughed and put the flack back where he
got it. "That did the trick... Guess I should have eaten before we high
tailed it out here after the Warrenlady."

"Well if that's all it is," the sailor commented and called out to a
boy who had just come from one of the buildings. "You there... go find
something for the lady here to eat and maybe she'll let you come take a
look at her dragon."

"Really!!" the youths eyes opened wide at the offer of such a wonderful
treat.

"Really," Fig promised, not that she really wanted anything to eat. But
if she refused, the man would start asking questions she didn't want to
answer just then. Questions that were already spinning around in her
mind as it was. Ones she didn't want to think of answers for.

She watched the boy run off to find her some food and other thoughts
entered her mind.

Anger. That was something she could focus on. Anger at Jerram for not
being able to control himself or his dragon. How long had he been a
rider!! Did winning the Queen's mating flight mean so much that he
would set his dragon to go after the Queen even though he knew her
rider had been gravely injured! The skunk!

When she got her hands on him she would make him wish he'd never... So
this was how he planned on helping her keep the Warrenlady safe! By
sleeping with her? What did he think.. that the assassins would come
after her in her bedroom!

Hell a whole army of assassin could have arrived and what kind of help
would he have been to her butt naked with his mind full of lust! None.
None at all!

And what of her father Kay? How did Jerram think *he* would feel having
his injured mate pawed all over by dragon induced lust filled idiot
with mush for brains! Someone he had always called friend! Or could
Jerram think about anything right now except rubbing belly's with the
queen's rider...

OHHHHH MEN!!! Fig swore silently to herself. Why did it have to be
NOW!! How could Varaenna have picked NOW to go into heat! Other
questions entered her mind. Other curses heaped upon the rider of the
blue. She ate the cheese and bread the young boy had found for her and
spent several minutes showing him Kasha, who revealed in the attention.
She even allowed the boy to sit in the dragon's saddle as the gray
walked around a bit.

She didn't know how long she and Griffin waited, watching the front
doors of the Inn, but it was growing dark when the door opened and
Jerram cautiously exited, took a quick look around, though he didn't or
wouldn't meet Figs blazing eyes, before motioning for someone inside to
exit.

First came someone fig didn't recognize, but thought it must be the
healer. Next came her mother looking very pale and not quite steady on
her feet. She was being supported by Kay, her father, who led her over
to where Varaenna and Seydor were coming into land.

Kay looked up and saw a strange dragon, his steps slowed as he alertly
looked around until his eyes landed on Fig, whom he did not know. She
saw his body tense when he noticed her weapons and quickly signed that
everything was okay.

**Wisp sent me here to keep his niece safe** she signed, using the same
hand movements he was familiar with. **I am Kasha's rider. My name is
Fig.. I am the daughter of Lord Darden... Weaponsmaster Jerram knows of
me. I arrived earlier with a note from my.. father...**

She turned to look at Jerram, keeping her anger hidden for now, to
confirm her statement and saw Kay did the same. When the Weaponsmaster
nodded and quickly signed that he'd explain later when they had gotten
Tara home safely... Kay looked back at Fig before continuing on to
Sabbith. Jerram moved to help Kay lift Tara up into the rider's saddle
before Kay settled in behind her to hold her steady.

As they did so, Fig stole a look at the man she would one day love and
saw how pale his skin looked. Almost as if he'd had a sudden shock,
instead of an afternoon of pleasure, and wondered about it. She almost
felt like going over to him to see if he was okay, but then remembered
that this wasn't her Jerram to try and comfort so instead she mounted
Kasha and prepared for the ride back to the Warren..

Besides... She was still angry with him and his dragon for winning the
mating flight.

Moments later they were back in Jasra. Fig saw Kay wave her off and
sign his thanks before he had Sabbith head for the med center. She felt
a stab of pain at the dismissal for she had wanted to go with them to
find out how her mother was. But her dragon's thoughts entered her mind
and her message made the rider feel a little better.

>>Sabbith's rider is a kind man,<< Kasha told her as she veered off and
headed towards the apartment Jerram had first taken them too. <<He hopes
you understand that he is not ignoring you at this time, but wants to make
sure Varaenna's rider is seen to by the healer. He says he will let her
know you have arrived in Jasra and kept watch over her in Haven.
Mean while Seydor's rider will make sure you have everything you
need.<<

<Please my love... Tell Sabbith's rider that I understand and hope his
lady recovers quickly.. Tell him we will be available when all is well
again.> She felt foolish all the sudden. Had she hoped they would
welcome her with open arms and everything would be as it was before in
her own time.

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! She told herself as Kasha landed on the dragon
ledge. Of course Kay would be suspicious of some *niece* they had never
heard of showing up without any advanced warning after a battle where
his mate the Warrenlady was almost killed. Why should he allow her to
get close to the woman before he could have her checked out.

As she dismounted and went to work removing Kasha's saddle, Fig looked
back and noticed Jerram's Seydor had landed on the green alone with the
others near the med center, and her anger towards him ignited again.
Was his ego so great that he had to hound the poor woman to .... No
that wasn't really fair. More then likely Kay had asked him to
accompany them so he could pump the man for information about this
sudden grown up niece of Lord Darden's who appeared out of thin air.

What would he tell them? Who he think he was duty bound to tell them
the truth about her and why she was here. She prayed not for maybe
telling him about her mission was what caused the time line changed...

It was all too much to think about she though an hour later when she
finally turned to go back inside. She needed a good stiff drink.

She bid Kasha good night and went inside. Dropped her riding gear onto
the back of the couch and headed straight into the kitchen where the
bottle of spirits was hiding. Poured herself a good shot and downed it

She was just about to pour herself a second stiff drink when she heard
someone pounding on the front door. She ignored it and took a long sip
of the drink hoping who ever it was would go away. But the pounder
didn't take the hint and keep up the noise until she finally slammed
the cup and bottle down and went to answer it.

When she saw it was Jerram standing there, she tried to slam the door
shout, but he caught hold of the door and pushed his way inside.

"What in the hell is wrong with you?"
