[DL-D] A Lecture Missed
Day 1
Afternoon
Med Center
Sharees wanted to double check the supplies for the newly joined
riders, as she began to organize their moving to a new location. She
had sent Roxie out to search through some of the larger store rooms to
see if any of them could be converted to barracks. Space was at a
premium with all the refugees from Triylar crowding into the warren.
But no one was more important than their newly joined riders and
dragons.
She went into the meat locker to count the remaining full buckets of
meat were left. As she was bent over counting, the door to the locker
opened and some of the riders came in.
As Star and Molina led Mist towards the meat locker, Star took the
lead and explained the importance of feeding the hatchlings, but not to
feed them too much. And the importance of oiling their scales.
Star cleared her throat before telling him about the mating flights.
"Since you missed Sharees' lecture, I should tell you about the..."
she paused a moment as she felt the heat rising in her cheeks.
"...mating flights...and the effects they may have on their riders."
she finished, knowing that her cheeks must be a crimson color by now,
from embarrassment, as she looked away from the boy.
Sharees looked up at the mention of her name and grinned as she
overheard the short snatch of conversation. Well, at least someone was
paying attention to her lecture! Sharees nodded as the young woman
explained about the affects of the dragon lust on the dragon's rider.
When the explanation was finished Sharees came over to the three
riders, smiling, at the young woman, "That was very well said."
Star looked at the woman who spoke. She hadn't realized that anyone
was there, until she spoke.
"Hello, we weren't formally introduced, but I'm Star" she said as she
smiled and looked towards Molina then back at Sharees.
"Nice to meet you, Star," Sharees smiled at the young woman and then
at the other newly joined riders. She waited for the others to
introduce themselves, but was a bit surprised that Star took the
initiative and gave her their names. "Mist, Molina..." Sharees tried to
remember the faces and names, knowing that she'd be responsible for
their training until T'rell could hear again properly and take over.
"So, is there something I can help you with?"
Star looked at the others, then back at her.
"Molina and I are just showing Mist around here. I offered for her
and I to show him around, then as soon as my Sarette is fed again, I
plan to try to relax. I have not done much, and needed to get off this
ankle of mine." she said as she looked down at her bandaged ankle, then
looked back at Sharees and smiled.
"Unless there is something you'd like me to do after Sarette is fed?"
she said, with a smile.
Sharees looked pleased at the offer and said so, "That's very kind of
you to offer after the exciting morning you've all had, I'm sure you
must be rather tired...." She looked appraisingly at the young woman,
noting how she seemed to have taken on a leadership roll among the
newly joined riders. "I'll be sure to remember your offer if anything
comes up, though. For now... your dragons and your health are the most
important thing."
Star smiled, not expecting the praise the woman gave her, but
welcomed it. "Thank you, and I can be ready for anything you need me to
do, when you need me." she said as she took two buckets of meat and
handed one to Molina and one to Mist, then taking the third bucket,
smiling again before turning to walk out.
Sharees marked down the three buckets that the riders picked up.
"Well, that's three fewer that I'll need to move." She chuckled.
Star stopped in the door and turned back as she heard Sharees' last
words.
"Move?" Star asked as she looked at her.
"We need to relocate the supplies and the hatchlings... oh and you
riders, of course... to another location. The healers will need their
space back for injured dragons. But I wanted to make sure there would
be enough meat in here until the move." Sharees looked at her numbers,
"And it looks like there is more than enough."
