Miaren's Office
Miaren sat quietly in her office..the door shut. She was still shaken
over
what had happened and she really did not wish to talk about it.
She also did not wish to talk to anyone about the findings. She sighed
and
sipped her tea and mused over the situation.
She could not explain the strange bruising type marks on her..the one
on her
neck near her ceratoid was the most difficult to explain away. It was
more
like a hickey to be honest..and she blushed deeply at that thought.
She had been so sure it had been a dream..but if it was a dream.then
why the
slight bruising? If it had been a dream almost nightmarish really.why
did
it show that she had...
Miaren teared up and blushed again. She took a deep breath and sipped
her
tea and willed herself not to think about it.
She glanced down at the message from her parents and wondered once
again why
she was here? She did not belong in this foreign alien place. She
suddenly
missed her family and friends deeply and wished she could wake up and
find
herself in her warm bed..home again.
She softly chuckled at her foolishness and turned her attention back to
her
desk and all the reports on it. Sitting there haunting her like what
ever
it was haunting her dreams.
She reached for the first stack and briefly scanned through them for
her
signature and to send them on their way. She often wondered where all
that
paperwork went. She closed her eyes again and shook away the sleepy
feeling
she was getting.
She was not going to return to her quarters and deal with what ever it
was.
How do you tell someone what you remember...but can not speak of? How
do
you share with another the strange things you have seen and when put
together fits into something impossible.and yet..it existed.
Miaren stood up and pour more hot tea to warm up the half cup she still
had.
She sat back down and got comfortable. Grabbed another stack of
mindless
paperwork and picked up the top one.
She scanned through it lightly and then stopped.
This was an autopsy. She sat up in her chair and realized it was the
one
performed on the crewmember that had been discovered dead..in her
quarters.
Miaren quelled the sudden panic that rose from within and constricted
her
throat.
She closed her eyes and sent up a silent prayer to her family for the
loss.
She took a deep breath and reached for the pen to sign it off. Best to
hurry it through so her family could begin the long process of healing.
"Beloved." a soft willowy chill surrounded her as the soft voice
whispered
to her imploringly to her.
Miaren spun around to find herself alone...in her office the door
closed.
She looked about her desk to see if perhaps some monitor or intercom
system
was on.
Nothing.
She turned around to find herself standing before a faint image of..
"J'sse?" she whispered in surprise. She stepped closer and reached out
to
touch the apparition before her.
Shaking his head he stepped backwards. "No.. my beloved...do not touch
me...I have not got long."
"I do not understand." She whispered ignoring his terms of intimate
endearments. Her mind racing down numerous paths; as she tried to sort
this
experience out in her mind.
"You are in danger..all of you...I will help you...watch over you but
you
need to find the clues to prove this to the others."
"Danger? You told me that once...clues?" she asked again as his image
began
to glow fainter. His face showing the signs of stress..his pain filled
eyes
more sad and longing.
"In your hands my beloved...it is there...I shall guide you as I can."
The
tones softened ending in a whisper that seemed to brush her cheek in a
loving caress.
"J'sse!" she hissed back at him partly in frustration at his
dramatics.but
partly she sensed he had given her a clue and she was...clueless.
She sat back down at her desk and rubbed her aching temples. He always
seemed to cause them. She sat quietly in deep contemplation and
wondered..how did he do that?
If he could do that little parlor trick.what else could he and the
Marquis
do? And if they could leave their confinement...why did they not? Why
pretend they were being held?
Miaren looked back at the autopsy report she was just ready to sign and
let
move on down the chain of command.
Miaren went back to the first page and began again. She sat and read
the
report and scribbled notes to herself to double check on when done
reading
the synopsis. She flipped through the pages checking the chemical and
toxicology findings.
Miaren sat up in her chair and opened her files on the medical charts
of all
the crewmembers. She perused the last known physical examination of
Myra
Allandro.
She gasped softly as she realized she had been the one. She felt her
tears
well up. This had been a live breathing living being. She had chatted
with
her and they chuckled and laughed together.
Now she was a specimen, a name and number on a file report and the cold
words did not bring or give any warmth to who she had been. She
flipped
back to the cause of death and frowned.
Accidental..no known cause believed to be natural. No suspicion of foul
play.
Miaren went back to her notes and then went back through the exam notes
and
the autopsy notes. It just did not add up. She knew many relied on the
computers and their medical programs to back up their guess work.
How many times had she just used the technology and not question the
strange
facts? More than she wished to count. But now.it had become personal.
She
was no longer in the lab.
Myra was not a specimen...Myra was a unique special individual. Myra
had
been her patient. Miaren could not let this mystery die with her.
What if
that security man had not walked by when she screamed? Would she too
be on
the slab in cold storage?
Was this what J'sse was hinting about? She did not tell the others
that for
part of her strange experience she knew he had been there. It was when
she
felt their forced parting that had caused the panic and to make her
scream.
Why had she not been able to tell them that? What was it with J'sse
and the
others that caused her to clam up when she wished to share what she
knew?
What did J'sse know that the crew did not? Why would they not tell the
Captain of this danger? Miaren pondered his words and knew he wished
her to
solve the riddle and mystery and prove them innocent..and perhaps
uncover
the danger he was hinting at.
She sat thinking of what she could do to collaborate the findings with
her
feelings. She saw a blinking light indicating she had an incoming
message..she smiled it was from her father.
She hesitated and then opened it. She smiled and felt the tears once
more.
It was a sign she was sure of it. Simple in his message to her..he had
awakened other teachings.
She knew what she had to do. That it would probably cause an uproar
was to
be expected. That she would walk away with what she need and the proof
in
hand was all she cared about.
After all..she WAS a lab rat..Miaren grinned as she felt the power flow
through her. She would find what happened to this young crewman...she
would
at least be able to give closure to her family..friends...and prove to
the
First Officer she knew her stuff.
She sent word to the Captain of her intentions and invited him as one
doctor
to another to join her. After all.he would be her Holmes to her Watson.
Elementary my dear..she chuckled to herself as she headed down to
surgery to
prepare.
(Tag josh if you wish Avi to join in or show up to see what is goin on)
