Subject: [DL-D] I'll Second That......
MD: 29 Late Evening
[..] Over Daere
It was after dark when they appeared over Daere the black quickly
announcing their arrival to the rather nervous watch. But the night
patrol was 'old-timers' and the woman and dragon were greeted warmly.
"There has been many changes!" The black exclaimed in excitement at
seeing old snugglemates, her thoughts tumbling through the link so
wildly the woman could barely keep up and missed some of what was said.
*We've been away a long time. I guess that's to be expected.* She
answered while they quietly landed receiving several welcoming huffs
from those that remembered them. It really had been a long time, far
longer then she'd realized and wondered if her old quarters still might
be available. But then, they weren't that far from the Beta
Wingleader's quarters so maybe that wasn't such a good idea. She liked
to think that her leaving had been to help her family when Telnor had
become unstable. But in truth her strained relationship with the
Warrenlady and her brother had been a big part of the reason for her
going, then with Papa dying it just got easier to not come back.
Jayleigh was just way too protective of her little brother anyway, but
thinking of her own brothers she guessed she could understand it to a
point.
[..] Inside the dining hall
The four men sat at their usual table on the far side of the dining
hall. Close enough to the snacks that Realee had left out, yet out of
the way enough not to be bothered. With the hour growing late there was
only a few stragglers anyway. Herc and Iolus had just arrived having
finished their patrol and were chatting about some of the local
farmers. Greeting the quartet the men joked back and forth while the
two filled plates before finding themselves a table.
The conversation around the great room had been the usual banter and of
course speculation on tomorrow's 'first flight' and how many injuries
there would be as they recalled their own flying debuts.
"Dammmnnn" Max exclaimed throwing his cards on the table with a
defeated grin. "You two are the luckiest sonsof ...:" the man stopped
in mid sentence his eyes glazing over. A huge smile slowly spread
across his face, the same action was repeated with Seth sitting next to
him. "Sam's back!" They exclaimed in unison.
"Shit! Damn! If that don't beat all! Things are gonna perk up right
nice around here!" Seth chuckled gleefully.
Lexi took a long draw off his cigar then a drink of ale while Jason
deftly scooped up the cards shuffling them easily with one hand.
"Who's Sam?" The two asked in unison.
Seth's grin broadened, leaning back in his chair he blew a perfect ring
of smoke. "Sheer poetry in motion my friends!"
"Ooohhh yeahhhh!" Max chuckled in agreement. "Heck of a good rider too,
amongst other things!"
Seth erupted with a hearty laugh downing the last of his pint and
waving for another. Another round of ales appeared at the table and as
the next hand was dealt Lexi and Jason threw curious glances at the
other two men who were now grinning smugly. "Yup, rumor has it that a
night in Sam's bed and a man ain't walking for a week." Seth chuckled
gleefully gauging the younger men's reaction.
Lexi and Jason both snorted more in amusement then belief and the
friendly by-play ceased as each examined his hand. The blacksmith wore
no expression as he stared at the cards before him. It wasn't a great
hand, but not bad and had a few possibilities for some bluffing. But
then Max and Seth were easy to sucker. Jason, on the other hand....
It was hard to explain what made him look up towards the door. There
had been no sound, nothing to indicate the door had even opened. Yet
all eyes turned when without a sound a tawny vision of beauty stepped
out of the shadows. Adorned with her weapons the woman resembled some
pagan goddess and a low barely audible whistle escaped from nearby.
"I'll second that." Jason answered in a gruff whisper. Lexi nodded in
agreement as both men stared appreciatively at the young woman.
Her sensual gaze moved around the room coming to rest on the card
players. Tilting her head slightly a spark of recognition came to the
luminous green eyes, her lips curving into a smile that had the men's
jaws dropping.
She moved with a grace that defied description, her hips swaying in
time to the drumming in Lexi's head. Flipping her long hair back the
blonde streaks reflected in the lamp light reminding him of spun gold
and the cigar in Lexi's mouth drooped as he couldn't help but gap at
the lovely vision moving towards them.
"Heya Sam! Long time no see." Max and Seth both croaked out as the
woman stopped in front of them.
Grabbing a chair from the next table she spun it around effortlessly
into the opening between Jason and Seth and slowly straddled it.
Casually leaning on the back her smile broadened, "Hi Guys! Did you
miss me?" She half whispered in a husky tone.
Both nodded vigorously, goofy grins spreading across their faces, "Yeah
did we ever!"
Her long lashes dropped sweetly, "Aw, that's sweet." She smiled,
unconsciously pursing her lips, a movement that brought all eyes to her
mouth. "I missed you guys too." Reaching over she took Seth's cigar,
looking it over she took a drag then casually blew three rings of smoke
one inside of another before handing it back. "It's been a long time
since I took the shirts off your backs.
The purring words fairly dripped with challenge and the two men
laughed. "Same ol' Sam!"
"Words out you could use some help?"
"We sure do!" Seth nodded, " Things have been pretty tense around here
and extra set of wings is always welcome." He added lightly not wishing
to dampen the mood with the warren's troubles.
Lexi cleared his throat at that point and the woman arched a brow
curiously her eyes passing over him and Jason before turning back to
Max and Seth. "I hear Jayleigh's gone?" The question was out and she
was surprised that there was no malice in her tone.
"Yeah, no one knows for sure what happened, she just took off one day.
Lexi's sister, was the Junior queenrider but she stepped down for the
Duchess." Max rattled trying hard to keep his eyes on her face and not
the enticing swells that were peeking out over the top of the leather
laced vest she wore. Her riding leathers looked like they had been
painted on and showed her womanly curves to perfection and it was
extremely distracting. She was a looker before, but had definitely
filled out quite nicely in her absence.
There was a moment of silence before she rested her chin on her palm.
"And J'aks?" She asked even though she already knew. That was one thing
she had been paying attention too.
Seth gave her a sly grin, "He stepped down and went looking for her.
Jason here runs Beta now." He answered inclining his head toward the
young man across the table.
The smoldering gaze turned slowly to the Beta Wingleader, taking her
measure the edge of her lips curled upward. "Well I guess then I should
report to you. I'm Samantha, but you can call me Sam." The sultry tone
pulling him into the warmth of her green eyes.
Her voice was hypnotic, her fragrance was intoxicating and Lexi blinked
to rid himself of the spell this woman just by her presence had woven
around every male in the room. He'd seen lots of drop dead gorgeous
woman in his lifetime, and in fact paid court to one. But this one was
beyond description and would definitely be trouble if his own reaction
to her was anything to go by. Leaning forward he scooped up a handful
of chips and dropped them onto the center of the table the sound
breaking the tension in the room. "Plenty of time for work tomorrow,
right now I plan on taking the boss's last coin." Lexi chuckled
grinning at the Wingleader.
"Fat chance." Jason answered, his eyes never leaving the woman as he
matched the bet.
"Too rich for my blood!" Max sighed throwing in his hand. For a second
he thought of asking her to join them then remembered how deadly she
was at the game. Last time they'd played she'd taken every last cent he
had.
More chips hit the table.
Sensing Max's indecision Sam rose from the chair, "I'll leave you boys
to play now, and I'll see you in the morning." She said pointedly to
Jason flashing him a devastating grin. Without another word the exotic
woman turned and walked away.
"Whoa.." Max exclaimed under his breath, his eyes crossing as they
moved in time with the swaying hips.
"Ya hate to see her go, but ya love to watch her leave!>" Seth sighed
with a huge grin.
"I'll second that," Sybil purred from the buffet filling a mug with
coffee. "Now that is one fine piece of female!"
Turning to find the cardplayers gaping at her quizzically. "Whaaaa... I
didn't say anything you all weren't thinking!" Chuckling, the
curvaceous rider grabbed a sandwich from the tray and wandered off.
Lexi shook his head in dismay. Sybil had come in unnoticed, and that
was saying quite a lot for Sybil. Seeing the smug grin on Jason's face
a small snort of irritation escaped, "Why do I suddenly feel like
chopped liver?"
Jason leaned back in his chair his grin broadening, "Because my
friend...it's you that's paying up tonight!" With a knowing laugh he
dropped his cards down in front of him, displaying a hand that had Lexi
and Seth groaning in defeat.

Subject: [DL-D] And so it begins.....
Day 30 Early Morning
Samson and Galendriel perched side by side on a low ledge watching
their brood assemble with pride. Today their children would fly for the
first time. [Little Seliel looks just like me, don't' you think?] The
crimson giant chortled puffing up a little taller. The golden queen
arched a brow in amusement at the chartreuse hatchling. Other then his
father's head spikes there was little resemblance, but Samson was a
proud sire and as far as he was concerned they all looked like him,
except of course for Cu'we who was as beautiful as her mother. But he
did insist that the little queen had his snout.
The reddish male took his fatherly duties seriously and had been an
avid hunter making sure the hatchlings had an array of meat and the
fattest bucks his queen had ever seen. The hatchlings adored their sire
and would wait anxiously for his return whenever he would leave the
warren. Of course that could possibly be due to the fact that Samson
would always return with a tasty treat for them It was plainly obvious
he enjoyed spoiling his children.
Of course having dinner delivered was one thing, but having to catch it
was an entirely different thing. Deciding it was time for them to learn
to hunt Samson had managed to return one day with not one, but two live
stags, both wiggling fearfully in his massive maw. One would have made
him happy but luckily the bucks had been side by side squaring off for
battle and the catch had been relatively easy and more then he could
have hoped for. His children scampered happily across the green as he
released his prize and the chase was on.
Needless to say it had a caused quite a bit of chaos having the large
bucks running loose with a clutch of hungry hatchlings hot on their
heels. Samson of course proudly and loudly extolled the virtues of his
'little hunters" as the baby dragons disrupted training and tore
through several vendor's stalls, and several other thing mindless of
the damage. The meal had been well earned and had taught the 'babies' a
valuable lesson when their mother sternly scolded all of them for their
recklessness, 'Daddy' included. But Samson was positive at one point
that he'd seen a proud little smile come from the queen as their
children finally feasted.
As with any creature great or small, babies will always be babies, and
tormenting their sire when he was sleeping had become a favorite past
time of the hatchlings. Tail tugging was allowed as long as no fangs
were involved, and the game was to see who could get out of the way of
the huge swinging appendage before they were sent rolling. Or if they
did manage to sink in a fang or two as the snowy white twins were apt
to do, it was who could hang on the longest.
Dragons lounged on ledges all around the warren. A hatchling's first
flight was all important if not downright amusing and there was a
constant flow of happy speculative chatter between the adults as they
anxiously waited.
The sound of the blacksmith's hammer rang loud and clear in the early
morning light and the sound distracted the hatchlings as they sat
somewhat impatiently by their riders watching the doors to the smithy
curiously. Their sire's rider did strange things with fire but none
dared venture near though, as Almantha was sitting by the door. They
had learned rather quickly to stir clear of the copper queen.
Pandora appeared in the doorway of the smithy, raising her hands she
inspected the beautiful necklace in the morning light. **I hope she
likes it...what do you think?** The queenrider asked waving it at
Almantha.
<It is pretty.> The queen snorted approvingly her eyes crossed slightly
trying to focus on the glittering chain.
It was a beautiful piece and probably one of Lexi's finest. It had been
a challenge this last month trying to bring Weya into the 'civilized
world' as such, and had been quite a task finding a middle ground that
would appease both Thea and Weya. She had come to enjoy her 'classes'
with Weya on proper dress and protocol. The new queenrider if not a bit
reluctant was a fast learner and she was always eager to please and
readily picked up on things so it had been more fun then work. They
usually ended up gabbing about healing herbs and potions of some sort
and Weya had been more then willing to help Pandora restore her herb
garden and was quite amused at discovering the older queenrider's
growing 'secret.'
Pandora smiled pulling a ball of special tissue paper from her pocket.
Paper like this was quite rare and she'd had it forever, but today was
special and so was the gift. Gently unrolling so not to tear it she
wrapped the exquisite necklace in it. "I do hope she likes it! I'll
give it to her after she and Cu'we have their first flight." She said
aloud. The chain was a unique woven blend of the metals and gleamed
brightly even in low light. She and Lexi had worked on a uniquedesign
of a crescent moon adorned with precious gems that she new were special
to the huntress. But what really made it special was that there was
tiny hidden hooks in the chain for Weya to attach her own charms if she
chose without detracting from the elegance of the piece. In fact some
of her charms were quite unique and would only make the necklace more
beautiful in Pandora's opinion. That way Weya could wear some her
charms openly for formal occasions making her more comfortable, and
thus not having to meet with Thea's disapproval. She remembered all too
well how intimidated she'd been by the Duchess, and went out of her way
to help bridge that gap for Weya.
<She will.> Almantha answered in a reserved tone, still trying to sort
through everything that had happened these last few weeks. **Oh, here
they come now!** Pandora exclaimed proudly. She hadn't been this
excited since Lexi had joined with Samson.
The unbidden thought filtered to the young queen and Almantha sighed
sadly. Carefully lowerng her body so that she could lay and watch, the
copper queen rested her head on her forelegs and slowly closed her
eyes.
"*Are you coming Love?*" Pandora asked patting the copper snout
affectionately. **I'm sure Samson and Galendriel expect you to take
your place with them.**
<No, I'm tired. I'll just stay here.> She answered quietly.
Immediately concerned Pandora bent over over to lift a scaly eyelid.
"Are you okay! Let me see ..."
The huge eyelid snapped shut and the queen huffed in irritated pulling
her head away. She was tired of being poked and prodded by healer's,
including her rider. <I'm fine. I'm just tired is all. You go. I'll
watch from here.>
Debating on what to do Pandora hesitated, then finally hugged the queen
before starting off. Almantha's wounds were pretty much healed and
thankfully with minimal scarring. There was still some after pain
depending on her movements but that was lessening as the days went by.
It was the lethargy in Almantha in that worried the jr. queenrider now,
and she wasn't sure what to do about it.
Lexi, buttoning up his vest appeared in the doorway. He squatted down
to pat the copper head affectionately. The scaly snout turned to nuzzle
his chest and the golden eyes spoke volumes. He and Panda had discussed
Almantha's strange attitude and he wasn't sure what to make of it any
more then his sister did.
"Hey Little Al, what ya doing sitting here? Aren't you supposed to be
out there with Samson and Galendriel?"
<I'm tired, go away!> She huffed in agitation at the use of the
disgusting nickname, before turning her head back to rest it on her
forelegs. Flerrion had made the mistake of calling her that once and
still had the bite marks he'd received for his foolishness.
Lexi had come to understand his twin's queen in much the same manner
Pandora could understand Samson even though they couldn't actually
speak to each other. Body language played a large part in their form of
communication. He had always found it rather amusing that Almantha had
chosen him to be 'her human' and would often side with him against her
rider on family things. Something he was not beneath using if it helped
him get his point across, especially if Samson got involved too and
sided with his sister. Even though Almantha had not been told the true
outcome of her injuries yet, Lexi was sure she knew and didn't doubt
that was part of this odd complacency she had fallen into.
Something was definitely eating at the queen, it was just a matter of
getting her to talk to her rider about it. Looking out across the green
he smiled. It was quite a colorful assembly with all the dragons,
riders and warren people in attendance. The first flight was almost as
big a deal as the hatching itself and he knew that Realee had been up
well before dawn preparing a feast in honor of the solo debuts.
"Well ya know darling, I would sit here with you, but unfortunately my
presence is expected." Rubbing the metallic scales lovingly he stroked
her head giving her a scratch in her favorite spot before rising to his
feet. "I'll save you a place though!" He added as a golden eye gazed up
at him. Almantha snorted at his knowing grin before closing her eyes.
Lexi chuckled at her rebuff, instinctively checking his hammer before
heading off to the green.
