When I send e-mail to people that I don't regularly correspond
with, I take some care to try to craft a descriptive Subject
line that doesn't look like spam.  That probably would be a good
and courteous thing to do in any event, but spam makes it a necessity.

(One time my mother sent e-mail to Jo Walton, to inquire whether
she had any copies for sale of a poetry chapbook.  She used my
name as the subject line, which was a good way to have it not
look like spam, but which -- my mom couldn't have known this,
of course -- caused her some momentary distress.)
