For one thing, we're comparing apples and oranges.  Or rather full
grown apples and orange seeds.  Your dozen is almost certainly
downstream of some heavy filtering.  My hundreds of thousands is
upstream of all filtering.  The number that get through to me is
roughly the same as the number that get through to you.

True.  Anything directed to any imaginable address at my domain will
get through to me -- unless it's stopped by my filters.  However, I
don't see very many outright dictionary attacks.  When I get a dozen
identical spams in a few seconds, I usually find that they're all sent
to the exact same address.

Much of it may be left over from when I asked spammers to remove
me, and also registered on all of the more than a dozen pur****ted
universal or global remove lists.  I did this not with any expectation
that anyone would remove me, but just so that I could say I had done
so, to avoid any criticism that I hadn't even asked to be removed.

Several years after everyone who was paying attention realized that
asking to be removed was futile, Congress passed it into law, in their
notorious CAN SPAM Act, which for the first time explicitly legalized
spamming.  In the war between scammers and the rest of us, Congress
sides with the scammers.
