The local Red Cross donor center here closes at 7 pm. Fortunately,
that just means you have to be in the door by then. Still, it's often
a struggle for me to get there in time, especially if there are "minor
delays" on Metro, as there are about half the time.

I'm CMV negative, which they tell me is quite rare in adults, and
makes my blood especially valuable, as they can set it aside for
infants and the immunocompromised.
Wikipedia says CMV "infects between 50% and 80% of adults in the
United States," so it looks like it's not all that rare.
