I preferred Capt. W.E. Johns SF books to his Biggles books - The Quest
for the Perfect Planet was one of the first SF books I read when I was
old enough to join the local library.  (Judging by the dates on the
Capt. W.E. Johns website, I must have read it not long after it was
first published.)  I remember really enjoying The Kings of Space and
searching for ages to try and find its sequel, Return to Mars.  Didn't
actually find a copy until I was an adult, about twenty years later.

His cosmology was a bit suspect, and his books were not as good as
Angus MacVicar's Lost Planet series, but they were better than E.C.
Elliot's Kemlo series.
