I read a "Kemlo" story when i was seven or eight - my Dad was active
in Boy Scouting (this was a few years before he rared back" [about
1959 or 60] and sent a letter of resignation to the Blue Ridge Council
saying "...the Scout Law says that 'A Souut is a brother to every
other Scout.'  Until black Scout Troops can join the Blue Ridge
Council, I canot in conscience be associated with it.); he had
subscribed or something to "Scout", and i discovered that "Kemlo and
the Crazy Planet" was serialised in it - it was what? weekly? - and i
hunted out all the segments and put them in order and read it.  (SInce
i recall sorting them on the living room floor in Greenville, i must
have been less than nine years old - about 1956).
