When I was undergoing secondary education in the sixties, the English
Literature syllabus I had to study involved a particular book of War
poetry, Henry V and Animal Farm.  This led me to love the poems of
Wilfred Owen and the plays of Shakespeare, and hating Orwell.

I'm not sure why it was Orwell that got singled out from that lot, but
it was nearly thirty years before I could bring myself to read 1984,
and when I did I quite enjoyed it.
