Interesting question. I remember that some fans in my
local fandom seemed to go out of their way to make disparaging
remarks about the humanities in general, which seemed a bit
silly to me, as I was both studying modern languages at the time and
had always thought of SF as a form of literature.

I must admit, however, that I haven't actually read that much
academic criticism of SF or fantasy. It seems to me sometimes
that the studies published on especially TV shows seem a bit
top heavy with popular/fa****onable/current theory, but that is
something I gather from reviews, mostly, so that could be prejudice.
