looks to me like an attempt to access a
higher level directory than the place on the server where web pages
are stored.  Could possibly work on poorly secured servers.  Fi****ng
for info not intended to be public.

Without a doubt, someone looking for vulnerabilities to attack on a
poorly configured server.
