The modern 'jelly bean' fronts on cars are intended to reduce injuries 
and deaths in vehicle/pedestrian collisions. So are 'break-away' rear 
view mirrors and inset wipers. Cars rarely have hood ornaments or raised 
metal lettering now, and that's to reduce injuries in vehicle/pedestrian 
impacts as well.
