Easier than that - detonate it a long way underground, deep enough that
the rock is naturally hot, using the blast to create a large region of
hot cracked rock. Drill another hole. Pump cold water down one hole -
because the rock is cracked it will spread out very easily, and the only
way out is the other hole - then tap hot steam coming up. Some problems
with leakage of radioactivity, of course, but it can be done.
