Note the difference between the headline and the study. The actual
evidence was not about addiction but about teenagers who, in responding
to a questionnaire, said that they found it hard to repress an urge to
smoke. Among those who said that, "10 percent had the impulse within two
days of smoking their first cigarette." And the actual conclusion was:
"these data suggest that smoking one cigarette in total can prompt a
loss of autonomy,"
