We had a bunch of catechumens getting their periodic look-over;
from time to time they've been sent off to Oakland to be reviewed
by the Bishop, but today the Bishop came here. I had never
before observed a Bishop saying Mass (seen plenty of
confirmations and so on), and was amused to see that whereas your
ordinary priest will pray "for our Pope Benedict, our Bishop
Alan, and all bishops and clergy," the Bishop's line was "for our
Pope Benedict, me your humble servant, and my brother emeritus
John" (Cummings, who retired as Bishop a couple years ago).
