How about the fact that downtown Philadelphia is not really a great 
place for a weekend convention?  The Sunday morning restaurant situation 
is pathetic but even at other times, the latest hotel was several blocks 
away from anyplace good to eat dinner.  (Not to mention that the hotel 
itself had a ton of problems.)  In other words, walking to meals is a 
definite problem.

In a suburban hotel, you can easily drive to a variety of restaurants. 
In an urban setting, Your car is in a garage, and even if you want to 
bother taking it out, you still have to find some place to park it not 
to far from the restaurant.

I realize all this assumes you have a car.  Or friends with one.

For us, this move means we are actually considering going to Philcon 
this year, after skipping last year due to the hotel/restaurant 
situation.  (Our solution to Sunday morning breakfast was to buy two 
bowls of instant ramen in a Chinatown grocery Saturday night, and use 
the coffeepot to boil the water.  The choices seemed to be that, 
McDonalds, or an over-priced and too large hotel breakfast.)
