Good point.  There was a Doctor Who episode that only existed as a
black and white copy, and that was colourised (as we say over here) for
broadcasting a few years back.  (I think it was from the Pertwee era,
which was the first doctor to be shot in colour.)

I remember a friend who's an academic saying a few years back that she
was teaching some sort of cultural studies course and she had great
difficulty getting her pupils watching any film earlier than Pulp
Fiction, and if it was in black and white, forget it.  (They also
wanted to know what the poetry of Keats had to do with cultural
studies.)

Many of my favourite films were made in black and white, and I prefer
to watch them that way.  Ironically, last time I saw the silent film
Napoleon, it was shown in a tinted print, which was how it was
originally shown.  They had to go back an investigate how silent films
were tinted so that they could duplicate it.
