Well, in the UK, the Three Stooges is more likely something people may
have heard of, rather than seen.  Same with a lot of US TV shows from
the fifties.  I mentioned the show The Honeymooners to some friends
recently (all about my age) and they'd never heard of it.

Probably not.  The film historian Kevin Brownlow has written an
interesting book about the re-discovery of this film.  (My copy is
autographed both by the author and one of the stars of the film.)  It
came out just at the end of the silent era and suddenly nobody wanted
to watch silent films.  He discovered some untinted prints made for
home projection in old markets in the fifties.  It was then a long
involved journey tracking down the complete film.  There are still
sequences missing.
