I eat mumble mumble too much sugar (I'm trying to cut back on it while 
I'm not playing hockey, onaccounta the car accident). Beets have that 
funny taste though. Take the difference between fresh corn, and canned 
cream corn. That's what beets taste like. Pickled are even worse, 
although I expect you wouldn't use pickled ones in a cake. The greens 
aren't as bad. A couple times I've liked borscht, so maybe different 
types of beets are better.
