I ended up celebrating St Patrick's day by listening to an opera about
German lesbians.

And there was a connection.

A weekly Sunday programme on Radio 3 this week dealt with Irish
connections in music.  The only living Irish composer I know of is
Gerald Barry, but if they played any his music, it was in the half hour
I missed.  This reminded me that although I enjoyed his opera The
Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant when it was premiered in London a couple
of years ago, I hadn't listened to the CDs for some time, so I got
round to listening to them again last night.  And the opera is about a
German fa****on designer who falls in love with a model, but the model
leaves her to go back to her husband and the fa****on designer has a
breakdown.  Fun stuff.
