The Civic Hybrid failed to impress me when I test drove one (2002, when
they
were brand new), either in terms of performance or geek factor; the Toyota
hybrid system is a good bit more sophisticated and at least has a much
improved geek factor.  I'm not sure if Honda's improved their hybrid
system
since.

The 2008 EPA figures for the Civic Sedan are a bit worse than your 2004
(26
city/34 highway with the manual, 25 city/36 highway with the automatic.)

How much of that is model changes vs. EPA methodology changes (or
differences between EPA methodology and your experience) is hard to tell.
