It's pretty clear I'll be able to get to Philcon.  The question is
whether I'll be able to get there in time to work on setup, as I
have in past years.  I also help with teardown.  Similarly with many
other cons.

Do you work on setup or teardown at any cons, or do you just complain
about the people who do?

I also created the Wikipedia pages for Philcon and its parent
organization, PSFS.  Similarly with other cons and groups.  And I
placed over 30 years of WSFA Journals on the web, and served as
editor of that journal for two years.

Is that your sole contribution to fandom?  Being "hard-assed" toward
anyone who asks, in a fannish newsgroup, how to get to a con, then
"bites the hand that is trying to help him" by posting a thank you
message to the person (fanoid) who gave me useful information?

You must be so proud of yourself.

If you're looking for more op****tunities to be helpful, in the
newsgroup next door, rec.arts.sf.written, people often post messages
with "YASID" on the subject line, asking for help in identifying a
story or novel they read years ago.  Why don't you helpfully post a
rant *****ing at them for not doing their own damn research, and for
expecting to be waited on hand and foot by others?

I guarantee that by doing so a few times you'll establish a reputation
for yourself in fandom that will be remembered for years.
