I'm skeptical of this article's claim that alcoholism involves
tetrahydroisoquinoline, a chemical it claims is far more addictive
than heroin. For one thing, that chemical is found in chocolate. For
another, it claims that that chemical remains in brains for at least
seven years after one's last drink. If that were true, why would the
alcoholic feel driven to drink more than once every seven years? It's
only when a drug's level in the brain drops significantly that the
user feels a compulsion to consume more of it.
