Many hotels have very confusing layouts.  You should have seen the
hotel where Datclave was held three weeks ago.  Only after I used
Google Earth in the hotel's Internet lounge to look at the hotel from
overhead did I realize that it occupied parts of several adjacent
buildings, built at different times in different styles.  The hotel
claims to be over 200 years old, though none of the buildings it now
occupies appear to be that old.  Apparently it grew over the decades
like a tree root, spreading first in one direction then another, with
some parts thriving and others dying off.

I've seen hotels where hallways slope from one end to the other, but
this was the only hotel I've ever seen where some hallways slope from
one *side* to the other.

It most unusual feature was a small room containing an ordinary table
and some chairs, whose door was that of a bank vault, the really large
expensive kind.  That door was propped open.
