Germany I'm not too familiar with, having only visited it once in my 
teens, but I seem to remember a lot of wide modern streets and post 
WWII architecture.

France - especially Paris and Nice, which are both more familiar to me 
  in recent years, tend more towards small, narrow, medieval streets 
with very little in the way of parking and  Nice in particular seems 
to have taken to the Smart in a big way.  (you should see the garbage 
trucks in Nice old town - Tonka toys are larger!)
