A lot depends on what that one thing is, how much you do of that, etc -
sometimes it works better to own multiple cars than to have one which will
do everything.

Until it died, my primary motor vehicle was a 50cc scooter which would
just
carry me and a backpack plus a bag or two of groceries or fast food. 
Which
was fine for getting to work, and for short errands.  Dirt cheap to buy
and
dirt cheap on gas (although something of a maintenance hog, and not so
cheap
to get worked on.)
