The cost issue is one where two or more people travelling by car have
an
edge on travel by air.

Going from one person in a car in a long distance trip to two,
doesn't
double the costs of the trip; the car will still use the same amount
of
fuel, plus or minus a percent.

But, taking a second person on the plane will, unless there is a rare
and
special promotional offer, double the ticket costs.
