My own "say wha'?" aircraft-sighting moment was when i happened to
look up one day while standing outside the barracks at Cam Ranh Bay,
and got a quick look at an aircraft as it came out from behind one
cloud and disappeared between anohter (seemingly moving rather
slowly).

I siad "My god - that was a C5!"

My buddies, none of whom had looked up in time to see it, said various
things which boiled down to "You're crazy - the C5 isn't operational
yet."

When the next issue of "Pacific Stars & Stripes" came out, i
graciuosly accepted their apologies after i showed them the front-page
photo and headline: "C5 makes first trans-ocean opewrational flight",
explaining that it had, in fact, flown into the Air Force base up the
peninsu;la...
