Thing is, nowadays, all terrestrial broadcasting is available on
satellite in the UK.

Because BBC 1 and 2 and ITV 1 has some regional content, when you buy a
box they programme it according to your post code.  Therefore, channel
101 is BBC1 for London on my box,  102 is BBC2 England, and 103 is ITV1
for London.

The BBC make there regional variants available all over the UK in
channel numbers in the 900s (which also contain all the "adult"
broadcasting, but I don't think that's significant).  If I want, I can
watch the regional news programmes for the north-east, where I grew up.

ITV don't make there variants available automatically.  I'm told that
if you know how to reprogramme your box, you can add the channels
manually, but I haven't bothered.  ITV were slow to go to satellite.
When digital satellite started, ITV were pushing their own terrestrial
digital platform, at the time called OnDigital, and then ITV Digital.
This was a subscription service, and it went bust.  (They gambled on
non-Premiership football games being more popular than they were.)
When I first got digital satellite, if you selected channel 103, you
just got a message saying ITV wasn't available on satellite.  It was
two or three years before it became available.
