I took Amtrak to the last Worldcon in Denver, travelling from New York.
It slightly surprises me that on my first solo trip to the US (I'd been
to Boston the year before with a couple of friends), I arrived in New
York with only a vague idea as to how I was going to get to Denver. I
went along to the Amtrak office and booked a train after my arrival.
I am definitely thinking of taking the train from San Francisco this
year to complete the loop, but will be arriving in Denver several days
before the con.
Actually, I have done the complete trans-continental trip in one go,
travelling from New York to LA in 1984 with a couple of friends. We
found ourselves behind Harry Harrison in the hotel check-in queue.
"Hi," we said. "We've just come in by train from New York."
"You did what?" he replied. "How are your piles?"
