I think I'd probably file a quick extension in that case...
I usually have a rough idea of how much we owe or the size of our refund
by the middle of January. If we're getting a refund I file as soon as I
have all the necessary documentation. If we have to pay then I usually
prepare the returns sometime in March and have them ready to mail. I
just don't see any reason to send them a check earlier than necessary.
