Yes... well, I knew he was a mining engineer and regarded as a smart guy,
not the part about Agricola's _De re metallica_.

I didn't include him as an example of a smart-but-disastrous president
because I'm not sure how much of what he gets blamed for he could really
have done anything about.

Nor do I have any idea of how smart Buchanan was or wasn't.
