His family still owns the US rights to his work; a couple of years ago I 
wanted to publish a Thorne Smith RPG, which would have included his 
works which are out of copyright in Europe - since I would have been 
sending disks to the USA I needed to get their agreement, to avoid legal 
problems.

Having battered my head against this brick wall for nearly a year before 
I gave up, I suspect that there is not a snowball's chance in hell that 
there will be any more films / TV shows based on his work until after 
the US copyright finally expires, unless someone waves implausibly large 
amounts of money at them. It's possible that some of the TV shows might 
be revisited, as happened with Bewitched, but a lot of other writers 
were involved and I very much doubt his estate still owns much in the 
way of rights - so it won't do them much good.

I have the fiction on line on my UK site, but don't look if you're in 
the USA, that would be very naughty...
