In a political philosophy class I once took, we studied Plato's
Gorgias, in which the rue of the philosopher is contrasted with that
of the orator.  Our prof pointed out that Woodrow Wilson, who had been
a political science professor, was at one poll of Plato's comparison,
while Ronald Reagan was at the other.

My prof, knowing my libertarian proclivities*, called on me to judge
WW's presidency. "Possibly the worst president the U.S. ever had," I
opined.  The prof noted that, given my affection for very limited
government, he wasn't surprised.

*I am in no way slamming my old teacher for "statist bias."  He was
instrumental in helping me maneuver through University regulations
when some fellow Libertarian Party members and I set up a campus
appearance by the LP presidential candidate.
