My Winnipeg, directed by Guy Maddin.
Master of the experimental melodrama, Winnipeg filmmaker Guy Maddin=92s
foray into documentary melds autobiography and mythology, blurring the
line between fact and fiction. As he dozes into sleep, Maddin
reflects on his hometown, blending local myth, dreamlike imagery, and
obscure historical facts. Seeking escape from his hometown, Maddin
confronts his mother, as muse and monster, as the city=92s history
unfolds in this dreamlike fairytale of Winnipeg.
This film screens on May 1 at 9:30PM and May 7 at 5:00PM at the
Sundance Kabuki Cinemas and May 3 at 8:30PM at the Pacific Film
Archive.
