Not all US insurance and health care is so bad; my Graves' was diagnosed
long before I had any symptoms(*) because my NP had been running a thyroid
panel as part of my annual bloodwork every year for five years... which
AFAICT he does routinely for any overweight patient, on the chance that
being overweight is a result of low thyroid levels.

(* sadly, the eye symptoms caught up with me after a year or so, even with
treatment, but it's not too bad.)
