I had the opposite experience at my last ER visit, after a car crash in
Colorado: they actively refused to take my medical insurance information,
and insisted on my car insurance information.  Since I had only liability
insurance, I saw no reason to give it.

They later refused to talk to my medical insurer to get the billing
handled,
despite pre-approval for the ER visit from my insurer, and my attempt to
give them all the needed information on several occasions.
