The solid walls are usually used when the layout runs an alley along the
edge of the neighborhood or when the nearby road is a true freeway.
When the fronts of the houses face the area that needs to be separated
the fences are usually decorative. In this case it's wrought-iron bars
about
3 feet high set on top of a 2 foot brick wall. For an adult it's basically
a
step up onto the wall followed by a leg swing over the fence. The property
owners on either side of the cul-de-sac have the usual 6 foot wooden
privacy fences. In some of the neighborhoods, presumably where the
neighborhood association is less active, there are no fences at all.
