Thank you for the link. When I first looked at it the other day I
scrolled to the earliest strips in the Archive in November 2007. Some
of them haveIdisappeared now, but they showed a character referred to
as Mr. Is or Mr. Was. He is a recurring character who I recall as
being most often referred to as Mr. Am. He is drawn as a
distinguished looking older man with a full white beard. One might
think of him as looking like a cartoon picture of God. His name(s)
bring to my mind God's name for Himself in the Book of Exodus, which
is rendered in slightly different ways in different translations:
Exodus 3:
13 Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them,
'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What
is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?"
14 God said to Moses, "I am who I am . [b] This is what you are to
say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' "
