That's only one of the names god uses for himself in Exodus. He also
wants to be called, "The LORD, the God of your fathers-the God of
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob" (people rarely use that one, as it's a bit
wordy, even though it's supposed to be the name by which he's supposed
to be remembered by from generation to generation). Also, In Exodus he
swoops about over Egypt when "The Destroyer"* killed tens of thousands
of Egyptian children (and a bunch of livestock for good measure). It's a
bit vague if god was The Destroyer or if The Destroyer was a minion or
some sort, or weapon god was employing for his smotage. Regardless,
"Destroyer" is an apt enough name.
(*Not to be confused with the series of novels by the same name,
featuring a guy named Remo.)
*Spoiler warning* Right after god explains his Popeyeish name, he
promises his chosen ones that they can move into an area that he knows
is already inhabited. A multigenerational war (with orders to kill
babies) ensues.
