Well, ancient ruins are kind of cool.  Too bad nobody would be around
to enjoy them.

ObSF:  The scene in Vinge's _Marooned in Realtime_ in which people in
an empty world build a castle, then jump forward a few centuries to
give it a patina of age and decay before moving in.

As I recall -- I haven't read it in over 20 years -- they also paused
in their headlong flight into the future just long enough during an
ice age to have a snowball fight.  How decadent.
