Pardon the dust, but I hope some folks will like this.
THE WORLDS OF JACK WILLIAMSON: A CENTENNIAL TRIBUTE (1908-2008) is on
track! We expect to have copies back from the printer in plenty of time
for the book's April 11th debut at the 2008 Williamson Lectureship at
Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico.
To keep up the momentum on a much-appreciated wave of advance orders, we
are pleased to announce that all copies paid-for in
advance-of-publication will be shipped with a 12-page booklet by Jack
Williamson, THE CAT THAT LOVED SHAKESPEARE. This story is heavily
referenced in THE WORLDS OF JACK WILLIAMSON in Vicky Medley's essay
"Queens of Space." Originally written as his holiday contribution for
his local writer's group, the story was published in the July 2005 issue
of Chronicle. In this story, a group of children find a stray alley cat
that is not really a cat at all! What is she? What is her destiny? And
just why does she know so much about the Bard of Avon. Her tale (tail?)
is told in THE CAT THAT LOVED SHAKESPEARE.
Meanwhile, check your travel itineraries and see if you can join us at
the Williamson Lectureship on April 11th. Links with the details of this
year's event are here:

At the Lectureship we'll be presenting a check to the regents at ENMU
for proceeds earned from the sales of our 2007 memorial tribute to Jack
Williamson, IN MEMORY OF WONDER'S CHILD. This 112-page perfect bound
chapbook sells for $15. Inside are tributes from some of the major SF
writers with their thoughts on the passing of Jack Williamson. This
chapbook also has two Williamson stories, "Nonstop to Mars" from 1939,
and "The Mists of Time" (Jack's last work published in his lifetime)
from 2006. We have about a handful copies left that were signed by
attending contributors when the book made its debut at the 2007
Lectureship <http://www.haffnerpress.com/jwl31/jwl2007.html>.
We'll see
if we can get more copies signed at this year's event.
Once we return from the Lectureship, we'll be readying GATEWAY TO
PARADISE, the sixth volume of Williamson's Collected Stories, for
release on or before July 31st. Pulp magazine aficionados may note that
Pulpcon 37 <http://www.pulpcon.org/>
will be in Dayton, OH from July
31st to Aug 3rd. This year's Pulpcon celebrates Jack Williamson and the
70th Anniversary of John W. Campbell's editorship of /Astounding Science
Fiction (aka Analog Science Fiction & Fact)/. Haffner Press will be
hosting a 45-minute multimedia presentation on the life and works of
Jack Williamson. Hope to see you there.
Stay tuned as we still have some astounding, thrilling (and yes, weird)
news regarding forthcoming titles from Haffner Press that you won't want
to miss. Meanwhile, below are the salient details of THE WORLDS OF JACK
WILLIAMSON and -- Keep Watching the Skies!

*THE WORLDS OF JACK WILLIAMSON: A CENTENNIAL TRIBUTE (1908-2008)*
Planned for an April 11th debut at the 2008 Williamson Lectureship, The
Worlds of Jack Williamson celebrates the 100th birthday of one of the
Grand Masters of science fiction. While Jack Williamson passed away in
2006 at the age of 98, his incredible body of work continues to be
enjoyed by legions of fans and admirers. Assembled in this centennial
tribute are several unpublished stories: “The Moon Bird,” “The Forbidden
Window,” “The Golden Glass,” and a film treatment from 1957, “The
Planets are Calling.” Also included are several classics in the
Williamson canon such as the original novella-length version of Darker
Thank You Think; “Minus Sign,” an unreprinted “seetee” story of
anti-matter and terraforming; and a tale with the first use of
“psionics,” “The Man from Outside.” Contemporary stories include “The
Hole in the World,” “Afterlife,” and “The Luck of the Legion,” the last
Legion of Space adventure. Included are essays from academics and
scholars who have studied Williamson’s works, as well as Dr.
Williamson’s 1957 Master’s thesis, “A Study of the Sense of Prophecy in
Modern Science Fiction.” Fellow Grand Masters of science fiction
Frederik Pohl and James Gunn provide introductory remarks on reading,
knowing, collaborating with, and admiring Jack Williamson.
