i was reading a book called "Where are they?" awhile ago,
( About The Fermi Paradox ( Where are all the Aliens? ) )

And buried in one of the appendixes, was a comment or observation that
Humanimals are about has intelligent as most other mammals, some
birds, Octopus', Various insects and a few fish.

That is; All these higher functioning animals are able to count to
about 7 without language. Even humanimals, when shown a plate of
randomly arranged M&M's can only reliably count them up to Seven
Units.

And there are many other examples.

But the nut of it is; Humanimals are really no smarter than a Cat, or
Crow, in terms of basic problem solving ability.
And this *****sment is based on your average IQ 100 Humanimal,
Not some freakish IQ 130er or more...
IQ 100 Humanimals are amazingly stupid and only SEEM to be intelligent
because of Language.

You may recall that there was a computer program awhile ago, written
in Basic, and being only a few KiloBytes long, that fooled many people
into thinking that computer scientists had created a genuine sentient
being, because it could communicate ( very primitively ) in normal
English.

Yet it was an amazingly simple and stupid program.

This language center that is in our brains, performs this amazing
TRICK of allowing us to manipulate symbols, which probably allows us
to not only speak, but remember more complex hierarchal sets of
information, which all together makes us SEEM Smart...

Yet if you gave any higher functioning animal this same skill,
they would appear just as smart.

Chimps are not noticeably smarter than us,
We are just equal to them at all the skills that are carefully
designed to eliminate the language Trick.
