Yes, and the film critic of the Village Voice picked up on it:
"How delicious that the monster comes to feast on the neo-yuppies."

And it's the same amused detachment we have to watching people starving 
and passing out on the reality show "Survivor", or watching married 
adults catching their spouses cheating on the show "Cheaters", or any of 
a dozen other reality shows.

It would seem that "Cloverfield" is satirizing YouTube, just as the 
movie "Network" satirized network television.

I understand what Abrams was trying to do.  But the devil is in the 
details, and maybe the script or the dialogue or the acting was too 
flawed.  I'll have to see it for myself.
