Yes, it's the difference between "realistic" and "reality."

"Realistic" and "realism" refer to depictions.  "Reality" 
refers to real-life events.

Something is "realistic" when it conveys a sense of 
"realism" (a depiction of something as it would appear
if it were real).  The video footage in BWP (and I presume 
Cloverfield, based on the trailer) employs "realism" to
appear "realistic" in that it is intended to appear as if 
it is real-life events shot on amateur equipment 
(cameras and cellphones), but "simulated" because it 
is in fact actors performing before expensive professional 
equipment.

"Reality" came into play for BWP because some in
the audience who were not terribly bright became
somehow convinced that what they were seeing was
real, actual events.  This resulted in the film getting
more attention and more business than it would
otherwise have warranted.  I don't see any indication 
that this is happening for Cloverfield, or that there 
is any intention to cause it to happen, but if that had
been what was intended, it would have been a bad 
idea.

Try to keep up with what others are discussing
before you jump in and demonstrate your lack of
understanding.
