What would the failure mode of that be?  When I visited my sister
in St. Louis and toured it, they said the structure was under
tension, which led me to tell her if one of the legs goes, the
rest of it will shoot out to six hundred feet on one side.  :)

(I also entertained my niece with drawings of the Arch with snow
on it and icicles hanging beneath.)
