Is it? At one time it was not well known but it might be better known
after the DVD release.

Oh, yeah. It may be a little better known right now because of the
remake.

The Goat was impressive. They wanted to do more to make it look weird
and did not have the budget. Instead they gave you this image where
you can almost smell the body odor. It made the devil much more
immediate and physical. I don't know at what point they realized it
was so much better this way.

I just ordered myself a copy. The same film shows up on TV with two
different musical scores. One has a really beautiful theme. I am
hoping that is the version they put on the DVD.

They had all kinds of problems shooting it. Originally it was
supposed to be a multi-story film, I have been told. But it really
comes together and has a very good period feel. Some of the scenes
apparently were so strong that they were cut from every video version.

It really is the film that deserves a lot of the credit for
originality that went to the later AIRPLANE! Not quite a funny as
AIRPLANE! but pretty close.

Sir, you cut me to the quick. This is a very visual, very hypnotic
film. One of only seven films directed by visual genius Saul Bass who
made some of the great credit sequences of films. He was mostly a
visual artist and everybody has seen millions of times the logos he
created various corporations without knowing it was him who designed
it. This is a great science fiction film. You really feel that the
ants think and make war like ants and not like humans.

Actually it has quite a different flavor. It is not a period piece.

You mean water spotted?

Very nice production design. It really has just the right atmosphere.

No, it was a tribute and there are some tips of the hat to Kneale in
the film from Tobe Hooper. Underneath all the zombies and the weird
death philosophy there is a fairly audacious science fiction idea
here.

I have seen everything del Toro has directed. CRONOS remains his
least seen film. His horror stuff is really excellent. I am a little
less fond of the comic book stuff.
